END OF SUGAR RATIONING
‘Domestic Consumers’ Only As Yet MANUFACTURERS LATER :<P.A.) WELLINGTON. August 23. • “As from the end of this week sugar rationing as it affects domestic consumers will cease,” said the Minister jof Supply (Mr A. H. Nordmeyer) to--day. “I wish to make it clear that it •is possible that in some areas there •may not be sufficient to meet all de'mands immediately, but the general supply position is now such as to enable the Government to decide upon ;the termination of sugar rationing.” • The Minister asked the public to refrain from making large demands upon grocers as soon as rationing was lifted. “There will be ample stocks coming forward to meet all require'inents, including additional demands .at the jam season, and no good purpose will be served by buying unduly large quantities,” said the Minister. It was intended that rationing to manufacturers would continue for approximately two months, he said. It .might be possible to reduce that period but it was thought desirable that consumer demand should first be met before increases were made for manufacturing.
