COMMISSIONS OF INQUIRY
CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSION “After the Ballantyne’s Commission and the Local Government Commission, we in Christchurch are heartily fed up with commissions,” said Cr. J. N. Clarke (Deputy-Mayor) at last evening’s meeting of the Christchurch City Council. “They are a waste of time and of public money. It is time a halt was called to commissions,” said Cr. Clarke. “After all what do you boys—you men—know about the problem, against the Health Department,” asked Cr. Mary McLean, when she seconded a motion by Cr. J. E. Tait, that no action be taken on a letter from the Chiropractic Health Committee asking the council to support a proposal that the registration of chiropractors should be inquired into by a commission, as recommended by a select committee. The Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) said many forms of medical attention were not approved by the British Medical Association. All that the letter asked was support for a recommendation of the select committee.
Cr. J. L. Hay said the statements in the letter savoured of some irresponsibility. He could not give his support to the letter.
“Save us from any more commissions,” said Cr. G. Manning.' “We have had enough commissions to last us a very long time.” The motion was carried.’
