SOFTBALL
WOMEN’S TEAM TO TOUR AUSTRALIA (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 22. A New Zealand women’s softball team is to make a tour of Australia in March. This was announced at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Softball Association on Saturday,- when further details of the trip were made available. A South African team is expected to be making a similar tour at the same time. The association controlling each member selected for the New Zealand team must find £25 as a contribution towards the cost of the tour. A selector is to be appointed by the New Zealand Association’s council. The team of 15 will be accompanied by a manager, a chaperon, and a coach. The president of the association, Mr A. Jenkins, will make the trip as its representative. The inter-island match will be held in Hutt Valley and the John Lennon trophy game at Auckland. Wellington is to be asked to accept the women’s tournament at Christmas and New Year. The election of officers resulted:—president, Mr A. Jenkins; vice-president. Dr. T. H. Pettit; executive, Messrs D. T. Howe, C. J. Pringle, G. Marshall, A. Davey; secretary, Mr A. R. Headifen; treasurer, Mr J P. Coyle; North Island council. Mr R. Dormer, Mr W. E. V. Lowe, Miss B. Bridger; South Island council, to be appointed later. The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Freyberg) is to be asked to accept the position of patron.
