INTEREST SLACKENING With the end of the competition drawing near, many players are losing interest in the winter lawn tennis tournament. On Saturday two first grade teams, Sumner and Edgewere, defaulted, and two other teams played one man short. In the second grade three teams defaulted. Results on Saturday were:—. FIRST GRADE Canterbury College II v. Llliwdod Singles.—B. R. Penfold beat S. Gray, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5; P. K. Foster lost to R. Morris, 4-6, 7-9; E. R. Ireland lost to D. Wakelin, 6-3, 5-7, 0-6; J. A. Skurr beat W. Bermingham, 11-9, 7-5. Doubles.—Penfold and Foster beat Grey and Morris, 6-4, 7-5; Ireland and Skurr beat Wakelin and Bermingham, 3-6, 6-4, Canterbury College II won by 4 matches to 2. Ladbrooks v. South Brighton II Singles.—l. Pickering lost to H. Dymond, 1-6, 1-6; P. Bell lost to A. Goddard, 3-6, 0-6; G. Ware lost to R. A. H. Howe, 2-6, 0-6; A. E. Davis won by default. Doubles.—Pickering and Ware lost to Dymond and Howe, 2-6, 5-7; Bell and Davis lost to Howe and Goddard, 1-6, 0-6. South Brighton II won by 5 matches to 1. South Brighton 1 v. Elmwood II Singles—A. R. Cant beat J. Buchan, 6-4, 6-1; G. Atkinson beat L. Radburnd, 6-0, 6-3; K. T. Hardie beat D. Bannehr, 6-2, 6-1: B. Callaway won by default. Doubles.—Cant and Atkinson beat Buchan and Radburnd, 6-2, 6-1; Hardie and Atkinson beat Bannehr and Callaway, 6-2. 6-4. South Brighton I won by 6 matches to 0. Woolston v. Opawa Singles.—A. L. Blackwell beat A. Neave, 6-0, 6-4; A. Bailey beat J. Borough, 6-3, 8-6; J. Devine beat T. Fenton, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4; A. Lee beat C. Douglas, 6-1, 6-2. Doubles.—Blackwell and Lee beat Douglas and Neave, 6-3, 6-1. Woolston won by 5 matches to 0. Elmwood I beat Sumner by default; Canterbury College I beat Edgeware by default; and Avonside had a bye.
