IMPORTS OF RECORDS

QUESTION ABOUT UNION ATTITUDE (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 22. Had the attention of the Minister in charge of Broadcasting (Mr F. Jones) been drawn to a threat by the secretary of the Musicians’ Union (Mr T. E. Skinner, M.P.) that action might be taken in New Zealand, similar to the demand in Australia, to ban the importation of records by certain popular American artists, asked Mr R. G. Gerrard (Opposition, Ashburton) and Mr W. A. Sheat (Opposition, Patea) in a notice of question in the House of Representatives to-day. “Will the Minister assure the House that he will not deprive the people of the right to choose their own type of entertainment by submitting to the dictation of local union officials,” they asked.
