SUPPLIES FOR SOUTH WESTLAND
SHIPS DELAYED Several circumstances have delayed the relief measures that are proposed for settlers in far South Westland, including a storm at Wellington which has upset shipping schedules. The Ranui, which has been diverted from the inter-island’ trade to meet the needs of the Public Works Department, was scheduled to leave Wellington yesterday, but will probably not get away until to-day. She is expected to arrive at Greymouth on Monday morning with about 25 tons of cargo, and after taking on cargo will go to Jackson’s Bay. She will replenish supplies of petrol and other goods in those areas past the end of the road, which are now in short supply. It is anticipated that the Ranui will make a second trip to Jackson’s Bay before reverting to her normal trading route. The Coaster, a Greymouth fishing trawler, chartered almost two weeks ago has been unable to make the trip to Jackson’s Bay with aviation petrol to maintain the South Westland air service, because of consistently rough seas.
