MAN FINED £5O AT TIMARU From Our Own Reporter TIMARU, July 21. “In the circumstances I will not send this man to gaol, but the law expects men to protect young girls, even from themselves,” said Mr Justice Fleming, in imposing a fine of £5O, in default three months’ imprisonment, on Mervyn Hunter Hopkins, in the Supreme Court to-day. A single man, aged 28 years, of Boulcott street, Wellington. Hopkins was charged with carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16 years at Timaru in February of this year. “He was wrong, and he should have sent her about her business." said his Honour.
