STATE MINES STILL IDLE
WORKERS DECIDE TO CONTINUE STRIKE
(P.A.) GREYMOUTH. July 18. By a very substantial majority, members of the Runanga <6tate Miners’ Union at a mass meeting this morning decided to continue .the strike which has made the Strongman and Liverpool State mines idle since June 21. The strike will enter its fourth week to-morrow. The majority was stated to have been reduced to 50, whereas formerly the decision was almost unanimous.
Announcing the decision, the president of the union (Mr G. E. English) said that more than 300 of the 550 members of the union attended the meeting. Another decision of the meeting was to send a deputation from the union to place the men’s views before .district mines in the Buller area. Mr English said that he expected the deputation to leave Greymouth to-morrow. A reply to the statement of the Minister of Mines (Mr A. McLagan), published on Saturday, was being prepared for .publication, added Mr English.
