The Chancellor of the Bristol University (Mr Winston Churchill) to-day conferred honorary degrees on six vice-chancellors of Empire universities including Professor I. A. Gordon, of New Zealand.—London, July 16. Lieutenant B. Box, officer commanding the Canterbury Navy League sea cadets, has been promoted to lieutenant commander, as from July 1. Mr E. E. Taylor, formerly of .Christchurch, who is at present serving as second engineer in the Kent, has been awarded his chief engineer’s certificate, according to advice received by his parents, Mr and Mrs E. T. Taylor, of Shirley. Dr. W. J. Smith, formerly of Christchurch, has passed the examination for Membership of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He left Christchurch in March to take an appointment at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. On exchange from the Royal Air Force to take up an appointment as Director of Medical Services with the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Group Captain P. B. L. Potter, 0.8. E., has arrived at Auckland by air. He will take the place of Wing Commander A. H. Marsh, who will go to Britain.
