SUPER FLIGHT’S WIN

CONSISTENCY REWARDED

Super Flight was rewarded for her consistent form on the first two days of the meeting when she scored a well-deserved win in the Onslc-w Handicap at Trentham on Saturday. After being slow away she was well back at the half-mile and did not become prominent until reaching tne straight, where she came through to challenge the leaders at the furlong and on for a clear-cut win. Super Lake lost eight lengths at the start, and Full of Fun, Triumphal, and Super Flight were slowest of the others. Theocritus began best from Lyn Vaals, Leigh Barton, Julius Caesar, and Langspiel. Down to the half-mile Lyn Vaals drifted a few places, and Royal Heir ana Lovemorn went up to join Theocntus. an they were followed by Full of Fun, Caesar, Leigh Barton, Lyn Vaals, ana Tommy Gun. Round to the home turn Tommy Gun moved up smartly and witn Theocritus led into the straight Langspiel, Lovemorn, Full of Fun. Julius Caesar, and Lyn Vaals. In the run home Lovemorn and Full of Fun soon reached the front, but Super Flight came though to challenge commencing the final furlongs, and gradually gained the upper hand to win by two lengths from Ixjrd Theio, which finished with a strong late run to beat Lovemorn by a neck for second. Full of Fun was right up behind the minor place-getters in fourth place, and clear of Julius Caesar, Langspiel, Lyn Vaals, and Wonder Boy. The which Super Flight gathered m the leaders in the straight points to her being successful over longer journeys.

Ganges Finishes On In a good struggle from the last fence in the Talavera Hack Hurdles Handicap, Ganges finished just a little too well for Kelmont, the outsider of the the pair had raced together oyer the last half-mile. Ernbrae was a good third, but the favourite, Tring, was unable to make any impression on the leaders over _ “J® last half-mile. Homan Duke was the early pacemaker from Bon Chafe, Master Ray mond, St. Hilton, and Ganges. With a round to go there was no change tn tae order, but passing the nine furlongs Keiinont moved up smartly from the tail of the field. At the seven furlongs Gnffin lost his rider, and at the six furlongs Ganges had joined Roman Duke m the lead, and they were followed by Kelmont and Master Raymond. At the halt Kelmont had joined Ganges a nd H«man Duke, with Tring and Ernbrae heading the others. Round the home turn, Duke started to give ground, and Ganges and Kelmont were followed into tne straight by Ernbrae, Roman Duke, ana Tring. Once over the last fence, Ganges and Kelmont settled down to a good struggle, with Ganges finishing the better to win by three-quarters cf a lengin. Ernbrae finished on well on the> innor to be a similar margin away, third. There was a gap of 15 lengths to Roman with Bon Chale heading the rest, which were well beaten.

Quartz Proves Too Solid Quartz improved on his first day s running and finished much too solidly tor the favourite, Persian Poem, in Handicap. Persian Poem and Battle Strife were the first out from Irresistible, Sandalwood. Quartz. Tanjeen, and Elofa. At the end of two furlongs, Persian Poem was a clear leader, but Platonic joined her in the next furlong and the fcair were followed past the half-mile by Murrayfield, Battle Strife, Irresistible, Quartz, Turangi Girl, and Nullah. Entering the straight, Platonic and Murrayfield were just shading Persian Poem, with Quartz and Battle Strife handy. Persian Poem shot to the front as soon as they straightened up, but Quartz soon challenged and over the last furlong proved much too solid, drawing out to win by two lengths. In a keen struggle for third place, Elofa finished fast to dead-heat with MurrayHeld, only a neck behind Persian Poem. Nullah was two lengths back, fifth, closely followed by Platonic. La Salle Memento, and Irresistible. Sir Royal At Good Odds . Sir Royal was at a false price in the Crofton Hack Handicap, and returned a double figure dividend. He finished strongly to win nicely from the fast-fin-ishing Money Lender, with Carnegie close up in third place. Money Lender, Mabel Knight, and Coral Arc all gave ground at the start. Battle Spear and Broiealice being the early leaders from Blank Cheque, Galway Bay, Indian Song, and Carnegie, with Sir Royal and Money Lender near the rear. Galway Bay and Broiealice dropped back soon after passing the half-mile, and Battle Spear led into the straight from Indian Song. Extra Flight, Blank Cheque. The Rip, Carnegie, and Sir Royal. Early in the run home Battle Spear weakened, and The Rin came through to have charge at the furlong from Indian Song and Sir Royal, but the latter soon reached the front, while Carnegie and Money Lender were becoming prominent wide out. Sir Royal finished solidly to hold off a late challenge from Money Lender by a length, with Carnegie half a length away, third. In a photo-finish', Vakura gained fourth place from. Lochrea, and then came Blank Cheque, Mabel Knight, La Bian, and The Rip.

Consistent Hack Stayer The consistent White Cliffs gained an overdue win when she finished a little too solidly for Colorado Maid and Kippo in the Kia Ora Hack Handicap. Lochwinnoch, Palissy, Indian Sky, and Jon Rosa showed out over the first furlong, but Gay Fellow was rushed to the front going out of the straight. At the mile he had been joined by Sergeant Jack, and they were followed by Lochwinnoch, Reveller, and Palissy, Field Marshal, Sir Warrior, Kippo, Colorado Maid, White Cliffs, ana Jon Rosa. Along the back, Kippo, Jon Rosa, White Cliffs, and Colorado Maid improved their positions and at the halfmile were prominent in the bunch behind Lochwinnoch, Sir Warrior, and Night Royal. The latter soon dropped out, and Lochwinnoch, Sir Warrior, and Bulaselle fed into the straight from Kippo, Jon Rosa, White Cliffs, Palissy, and Colorado Maid. As the field straightened up Kippo came through on the inside, but at the furlong he was being challenged by White Cliffs, with Bulaselle and Colorado Maid also in the picture. White Cliffs finished on well and won by three-quarters of a length from Colorado Maid, which got up to beat Kippo by a similar margin. Bulaselle was another two lengths back, in fourth place, followed by Palissy and Sir Warrior Trainer’s Licence Cancelled The Judicial Committee concluded the hearing at Trentham on Saturday of an inquiry opened the previous Saturday ihto a charge of improper behaviour against W. E. Pine, a licensed trainer. The offence occurred in the jockeys’ refreshment room on the first day of the meeting on July 3, and the charge was brought under rule 88 of the Rules of Racing. The committee found Pine guilty of Improper behaviour, and also found that Ms evidence was misleading. It was ordered that his trainer’s licence be cancelled until the end of the current term. Inquiry Into Falls Completed The inquiry into the falling of five horses in the Parliamentary Handicap on the second day at Trentham was resumed on Saturday, and the Judicial Committee found that the falls were accidental, and no blame was attachable to any of the riders. The appeal judges of the New Zealand Racing Conference last night heard an appeal under Rufe 376 of the Rules of Racing by J. A. McDougall, of Martinborough. for the removal of disabilities by reason of Rufe 103 imposed on the horse Tomahawk. The judgment states: "Having heard Mr J. F. Thompson, counsel for the appellant, and having perused the statutory declaration of the appellant and having heard Dr. B. C. Rennie, for the Wellington District Committee, we direct the removal of the disabilities in whole from the horse Tomahawk and order that the deposit on appeal be refunded." .
