DISAGREEMENT ABOUT REFEREE
THREAT TO WITHDRAW FROM SUB-UNION A meeting of about 15 members of the Eastern Bays Rugby Football Club on Thursday decided to withdraw from membership in the Banks Peninsula SubUnion unless their referee, Mr N. Mason, was given charge of the senior match between Little River and Eastern Bays, which is set down for to-day. The subunion. at a meeting this week, decided to make arrangements for a Christchurch referee to control the game. The match is likely to be a decisive one, because these teams share the leading position, and the last club matches of the season will be held to-day.
Sub-union rules provide that a special meeting of the sub-union may be held within 24 hours if the Eastern Bays Club forward a requisition, signed by not fewer than five sub-union delegates, to the secretary. The meeting decided, however, to send a telegram to the sub-union secretary, Mr T. E. Armstrong, reporting the resolution which had been passed. An official of the Eastern Bays Club said on Thursday that he believed there was no intention of forwarding a signed requisition. SCHOOL MATCH PAPANUI BEATS GREYMOUTH TECHNICAL SCHOOL Papanui won by 21 points to 3 in the annual Rugby football match' between the Greymouth and Papanui Technical High Schools, which was played at Papanui yesterday. In a fast, hard-fought game, Papanui held the upper hand both in the forwards and the backs. Early in the second spell, Greymouth attacked and scored a try, but was unable to break through again.
