ELECTRICITY SUPPLY
Sir, —The district electrical engineer has stated that peak loading is the main trouble we have to guard against, not shortage of water: or in simple language, the turbines and generators are not large enough to supply the power required by consumers. This being so. why does the Government permit new houses to be fitted with electric stoves and water heaters, causing a load of approximately 8 h.p. a house on the system? If the annual increase in new houses fitted with electrical apparatus continues, it has been calculated that in three years-’ time the load on the supply system will be such that householders will only be allowed to use their lights, and nothing else. If a basket snows signs of falling to pieces you do not fill it twice as full.— Yours, etc., ENGINEER. July 14, 1948.
