OBITUARY

MR A. E. LEATHAM A keen sportsman and at one time considered one of the best rifle shots in England, Mr Albert Edward Leatham died in Christchurch' on Tuesday. His quest for big game, of which he had some fine trophies, took him to many parts of the world, and his final collection - was presented to the Eton College museum. Among these animals was a tufted deer from central China, possibly the only specimen of its kind to have been shot. Mr Leatham brought a cricket team to New Zealand for Lord Hawke in 1902-03. and was a playing member of the M.C.C., Free Foresters, and the Eton Ramblers. He was educated at Eton and Cambridge University, later writing a book on his travels called “Sport in the Five Continents.”
