AIMS OF TECHNICAL COLLEGE
SPECIALISATION TRAINING URGED
“There is now a great need for specialised training to meet the community’s requirements, and the technical college should become the focal point for such training,” said Mr R. Jones at a meeting last evening of the Board of Governors of the Christchurch Technical College. He was presenting a remit that the dominant aim of the technical college should be the training of youths to be (1) efficient in the' industry in which they intend to work, and (2) worthy citizens to work for the progress of the community. He asked that the remit be submitted to a meeting of the Technical Colleges’ Association.
“At present more money is being spent on education than ever before, yet the only result is a tendency to avoid responsibility,” said Mr Jones. “The few people left with responsibility are becoming .fewer because of their increasing burdens. I would like to see someone more important than I discuss this question. It will also provide something of interest without profit to the newspapers—that is, it will take space which would otherwise be used for objectionable advertising.” The remit will be discussed by the finance committee.
