U.S. AMBASSADOR TO AUSTRALIA
(Rec 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON. July 1. Mr Myron Melvin Cowen, a New York lawyer, has been appointed United States ambassador to Australia in succession to Mr Robert Butler. Mr Cowen will serve on a temporary basis until Congress reconvenes, and his appointment is ratified by the Senate.
N.Z. NAVAL OFFICERS ENTERTAINED LONDON. July 1. The High Commissioner for New Zealand (Mr W. J. Jordan), the New Zealand Naval Affairs Officer m London (Mr S. G. Skinner), and officers of the two New Zealand corvettes Arbutus and Arabus, were entertained at lunch aboard H.M.S. Victory at Portsmouth by the Admiral Commanding at Portsmouth, Admiral Lord Fraser Lord Fraser, who commanded tne British Pacific Fleet during the final stages of the recent war, paid a tribute to the unfailing co-operation he had always received irom the New Zealand Government and the Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) personally.
