QUESTIONS ASKED IN PARLIAMENT
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. July 2. Mr A. S. Sutherland (Opposition, Hauraki) in a notice of question to the Minister of Labour (Mr A., MeLagan) in the House of Representatives to-day asked him to make urgent endeavours to settle the waterside dispute in Auckland. Mr R. M. Algie (Opposition, Remuera) in another notice of question to Mr McLagan, asked if it was the Government’s policy or desire that settlement of the dispute should be secured by exhausting the reserves of savings of the men, and by reducing them to submission by a process of attrition. *Now that the voting powers of the Government on the control commission have been enlarged, can we not hope for a speedier, better and more humane method of settlement?” asked Mr Algie. The Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser): A first attempt at national appeasement.
