OCCUPATION OF JAPAN
FAIRNESS OF CONTROL PRAISED
(Rec. 10 p.m.) TOKYO. March 20. It was universally recognised that the control exercised by the occupation forces in Japan was one of fairness and tolerance unsurpassed in history, said the Prime Minister (Mr Ashida) in his opening address to the Diet. It was impossible to predict when the peace conference would be held; but the Government’s best effort ■would be directed toward enhancing the world’s trust and confidence in Japan. Prospects of Japan procuring increasingly large amounts of vital commodities from the Allied nation! were brightening.
