HUTT VALLEY AND WAIKATO BEATEN /p A 1 WELLINGTON, March 21. Wellington retained the Wilding Shield and Nunneley Casket when the matches against Waikato were completed at Lower Hutt yesterday. Wellington won the casket match by 7 matches to 5, and the shield by 9 rubbers to 3. The casket matches were more interesting, with Mrs Painter (Wellington) playing her best tennis to score a convincing win over Mrs J. Graham. She also played well with Mrs J. McVay to come close to beating Mesdames R. V. Robb and Graham. The Wellington players did well in keeping play away from Mrs Robb, who scored in her usual convincing style whenever the opportunity occurred. A well-merited win was gained bv the other, Hutt Valley doubles pair, Miss Dudding, aged 17, and Miss Slacken, ag i e n the Wilding Shield series, Waikato’s Lon Roach was unfortunate in a hand in his second set against C. Angas. Roach had to concede the match. He had lost the first set 6-1, but was leading 5-4 when he fell and cracked a bone m a hand The Waikato manager. M.
