EWE FAIR AT ALBURY “The Press” Special Service TIMARU, March 19. The dry period in South Canterbury in the last two months was reflected in the disposal of ewes and ewe lambs at the annual ewe fair at Albury to-day. The total offering of 16,000 was twice that of last year and considering the feed conditions, the condition of most drafts was better than was expected. The sale opened on the two-tooth ewes, the quality being medium with the exception of two pens. The ewe lamb offering totalled more than 2000 and once again, with the exception of an odd pen, size, condition, and quality was medium. The bulk of the yarding was made up of cast ewes, values for which dropped from 2s to 8s a head compared with last year. Some pens comprised large numbers of serviceable ewes in fair condition. Competition was very erratic in all sections, buyers being reluctant to bid vefry far on doubtful-mouthed cast ewes. Prices ranged as follows: Romney cross two-tooth ewes: best, 37s 6d to 395; medium, 33s 6d to 345; small, 221 6d to 26s 6d. Halfbred and three-quarterbred twotooth ewes: medium, 28s to 335; small, 21s to 265. Romney cross ewes lambs: best, 31s to 33s 6d; medium, 25s to 27s 6d; small, 16s to 19s. Romney cross cast ewes: best, 26s 6d to 28s; medium, 21s to 24s 6d; small, 8s 6d to 15s 6d. Halfbred and three-quarterbred cast ewes: best. 21s to 26s 6d; small to medium, 12s 6d to 18s 60.
