APPEAL AGAINST SENTENCE

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 18. The Court of Appeal to-day heard the appeals of Bert Joe Atkinson against a sentence of two years’ reformative detention imposed on him at Christchurch by Mr Justice Fleming on February 20 on a charge of indecent assault on a boy aged 16. Counsel for the appellant (Mr D. J. HuSvitt) submitted that at the time of the offence his client was very drunk and did not appreciate the nature or extent of the offence. The Court reserved its decision.
