GIRL AWARDED £1661
COMPROMISE APPROVED BY COURT A compromise, by which the plaintiff agreed to accept £l5OO general damages and £l6l 14s 6d special damages, was approved by Mr Justice Fleming in the Supreme Court yesterday. Kathleen Amelia Stratford, aged 15 (suing by her father, Lawrence Henry Stratford, of Boddytown), near Greymouth, was cycling along a street in Greymouth on February 22, 1947, when she was run down by a motor-car driven by Thomas Southeran, builder, of Greymouth. She suffered multiple injuries.' Dr. A. L. Haslam appeared for the plaintiff. and Mr R. P. Thompson for Southeran. There was no doubt the girl received very serious injuries, said his Honour. She had received excellent surgical treatment and had made a good recovery. "I think it a proper settlement and I approve the compromise,” he added.
