FIGHTER PLANES AT KARACHI
RELEASE REFUSED BY PAKISTAN INDIAN PROTESTS AT LAHORE MEETING (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON. January 12. “The Indian representatives at a Joint Defence Council meeting at Lahore angrily protested against, Pakistan’s refusal to release 30 Tempest fighter aircraft, now in Karachi, which India badly needs for the Kashmir war.” says the “Daily Telegrsph” correspondent at Lahore. “The aircraft Should be flown to India under the agreement for the division of military stores. - . . , “Liaqat Ali Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, refused to listen to the protests, claiming that India herself had not observed the agreement.” Reuter’s correspondent in New Demi says that the Deputy-Prime Minister of India (Mr Vallabhbhai Patel) said that India could not reasonably be asked to release Pakistan’s cash balances when an armed conflict was in progress. Mr Patel was answering charges y the Pakistan Minister of Finance (Ghulam Mohamed) that India was indulging in political blackmail by delaying the transfer of £42,000,000.
