WAGE INCREASE

Sir,—During the month of November there was a report from Parliament in “The Press” stating, that the minimum wage for males over 21 years was to be increased from £5 5s to £5 15s a week, and that it was to take effect from December 1 of this year. Has the increase been granted? If not, why not? I am informed it has been, but I have not seen anything in the paper about it.—Yours, etc., WORKER. December 2,7, 1947.

[When this letter was referred to an officer of the Labour' Department, he said that the increase had been granted. The Minimum Wage Amendment Act, 1947, passed on November 25, provided a minimum wage for males over 21 years from December 1 of 3s an hour if paid by the hour, £1 4s if paid by the day, and £5 15s if paid by the week.]
