PRECAUTIONS DURING HOLIDAYS
Business people should see that the doors and windows in their premises were securely locked during the New Year holidays. Large sums of money should not be left on the premises, said the Superintendent of Police in Christchurch, Mr H. Scott. If any persons were seen in suspicious circumstances near any premises, the police should be notified promptly, he said. Visitors on holiday in Christchurch were advised, when retiring for the night, to take their money from their pockets or handbags and put it in their pyjama pockets, for at this time of the year some men came to the city with the object of getting rich quickly. Householders should not leave money, valuables, or bank books lying about in the house. Doors and windows should be locked securely before the occupants of the house left it on holiday, or even for a brief period. Speaking of traffic, precautions. Mr Scott said that many additional calls were made on the services of the police at this time of the year. Pedestrians should use the pedestrian crossings and look out for the approach -61 motor vehicles.
