SOUTH CHRISTCHURCH TOURNAMENT

Twenty-eight fours were engaged in the South Christchurch bowling tournament conducted by the Sydenham and Barrington Bowling Clubs yesterday. Results were as follows:

Barrington GreenFirst Round.—Kennelly 20, Harrison 13; Dowling 14, Cooper 12; Croat 14, Snow 11; Payne 14, Ives 12; Giddens 14, Seymour 6; Hirst 19, Killick 9; Gibbons 14, Coombe 7.

Second . Round.—Snow 19, Killick 10; Ives 16, Coombe 7; Kennelly 13, Seymour 11; Dowling 15, Hirst 12; Gibbons 22, Croat 7; Harrison 13, Payne 8; Giddens 21, Cooper 8. In the play-off for the green winner, Gibbons beat Kennelly 4-1.

Second Round.—Worsdell beat Smith; Spearman beat Marriott; Taylor beat Gilligan; Henry beat Johnson; Lee beat McNish: Simms beat Brown; Besley beat Austin.

Third Round.—Gilligan beat Brown; Besley beat Johnston; Worsdell beat McNish; Spearman beat Simms; Austin beat Taylor; Henry beat Smith; Marriott beat Lee.

Fourth Round.—McNish beat Henry; Lee beat Simms; Austin beat Brown; Besley beat Smith; Worsdell beat Marriott; Gilligan beat Spearman; Taylor beat Johnson.

In the play-off, Besley beat Gibbons by six to three. The winning team was as follows:—Besley (s), Hocking. Yugovitch, and Dunn (lead). president of the Sydenham Club (Mr R. Henry) presented the shield to the winning team. SUMNER CLUB In a progressive pairs tournament played on the Sumner bowling green yesterday. H. G. Davis, A. Geddes, and L. Drury each had three wins. In the play off, Geddes was the winner, with Drury second.

SECOND DAY OF TIMARU TOURNAMENT From Our Own Reporter TIMARU, December 26. One of the most trying days possible was experienced at Timaru to-day by bowlers taking part in the second day’s play of the South Canterbury Bowling Centre’s Christmas tournament. The temperature was high, and a strong northwest wind at times caused upsets. Sectional play in the pairs competition of the tournament was run off on seven greens, all of which were running fast and true. In all, 34 pairs qualified for post-sectional play, 11 with four wins, and 23 with three wins.
