REFUGEES IN EUROPE
RECOMMENDATION BY U.N. ASSEMBLY STATES ASKED TO TAKE FAIR SHARE (Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 18. The United Nations General Assembly has approved an immigration proposal which urges member nations to speed the return of repatriable re fugees to their homelands and asks each Government to admit a fair share of non-repatriable displaced persons. The resolution represents a compromise between the Slav States’ insistence that the repatriation of the remaining refugees be emphasised and the United States’ view that the Assembly should emphasise the voluntary resettlement of European displaced persons. The. resolution, without mentioning Palestine, also calls on member States not to accord aid and protection to individuals or organisations engaged in promoting or operating illegal immigration.
