COUNTRY STORES BROKEN INTO
ATTEMPT TO CUT SAFE OPEN FAILS
MATERIAL STOLEN FROM CITY FACTORY
The store of Dartnail Bros, at Springston was broken into on Monday night and goods worth about £3O were stolen. An attempt was made to cut open the safe with a welding outfit. but this failed. There was £2OO in the safe. The welding outfit, which was stolen from the engineering workshop of Mr Norman Brown, at Yaldhurst, on Sunday night, and another one stolen from a garage in Springston were left behind by the thieves. The Leeston store of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association of Canterbury, Ltd., was entered on Monday night and goods valued at about £BO were stolen. Two months ago this store was broken into and about £3OO worth of goods stolen. Some time during the week-end thieves broke into the premises of the Paris Manufacturing Company. Ltd., 250 St. Asaph street, Christchurch, and stole suitings valued at approximately £5OO. It is stated that a motor vehicle must have been used to carry away the quantity of goods stolen.
