BUTCHERS’ MEAT SUPPLIES
FROZEN QUOTA NOT NOW
COMPULSORY From Our Own Reporter WELLINGTON, October 7. The requirement that butchers must take a 10 per cent, quota of frozen meat before they can acquire their requirements of .fresh meat will be waived as from to-mor-row. This information was received to-day from the Rationing Controller, Mr A. J. Costelloe, who said that an application for the waiving of the control had been received from the New Zealand Master Butchers’ Federation, and would be given effect to immediately. Mr Costelloe said that the federation itself, not the rationing office, had been responsible for the initiation of the frozen meat quota. Because of some difficulties in the South Island, it had been decided to ask for the revocation of the requirements. “Therefore, we will be cancelling the meat quota tomorrow, and butchers will be able to buy what they want,” Mr Costelloe added. The quota was introduced on September 1.
