TRACK WORK AT ADDINGTON

TROTTING

GANTREE AND FRENCH GOLD IN FORM Gantree and French Gold impressed by the manner in which they worked at Addington yesterday morning, and they should race weß at the Forbury Park 'Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Gantree set the pace, covering the last mile and a half of a two-mile work-out in 3min 37sec, the last four furlongs in Imin 4 3-ssec. The winner of the Shirley Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on September 27, Gantree is an acceptor in the St. Clair Handicap and the Southland Handicap at the Forbury Park meeting this week, but he wUI probably start in the Southland Handicap, in which he is nicely placed on the 12 yards mark. • French Gold, which paid his wdy for Mr L. A. Wigzell last season with a win and three second placings, may earn some of the prize money in the St. Clair Handicap. Jackie Guy looked well when he was given strong work over two miles. At his only start for the season, Jackie Guy finished in second place to Right Royal in the Cambridge Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on September 6, and on that form he should prove hard to beat from the scratch mark in the King George Handicap at Forbury Park this week. Sir Michael in Work

Sir Michael, which injured a leg when he broke at the start of the National Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting on August 30. is back in work at Addington. Sir Michael, which was. not to do his best when working over a mile and a half yesterday morning, appeared sound when he pulled up. / Aerial Scott appears to have overcome the leg trouble which threatened his career in the early part of the season and he showed encouraging form when driven by R. Young yesterday. Bonny Scott, which raced as a pacer at Methven on Saturday, trotted over a mile and a half in 3min 28 2-ssec, the last half in Imin 7 l-ssec.

Paced by Sandy’s Selection, Play Safe and Golden Game covered a mile and a quarter in 2min 50 4-ssec, the last half mile in Imin 7 l-ssec. A useful type, Golden Game may race weß in the main events for pacers at the Reefton Trotting Club’s meeting this week. sprinted Home

After covering the first mile and a half in 3min 28sec, Dundee Sandy and Bußdozer sprinted home the last four furlongs of their trial in Imin ssec. Maori Home, which gave Certainty five seconds start, covered two miles in 4min 37sec, the last half mile in Imin 4 4-5 sec. Sure Money proved too good for Repertory when covering the last four furlongs of their trial in Imin 7sec. A useful trotter, Sure Money should be suited by the mile and a half journey in the Bayfield Handicap at Forbury Park on Saturday. Repertory has done well in J. Magee’s care at Addington, and if he leaves the mark correctly he should pay expenses at the Reefton Trotting Club’s meeting. Easy Work

Admiration, Forewarned, and Cameronian were let off with a mile and a half in 3min 33sec, the last half mile in Imin 9sec.

Driven by her trainer, D. A. Withers, Accord gave a solid display of trotting over a mile and a half. An aged mare by Wrack from Mary Locanda, Accord registered nine minor placings last season, and on that form she must be conceded a chance in the trotting events at the Reefton Trotting Club’s meeting this week.

Lady Spray, which disappointed by breaking at the start of the S. G. Holmes’s Memorial Handicap, worked nicely for J Purdon. A speedy daughter of Gamble and Knna, Lady Spray may atone for her mistake with a win in the Peninsula Handicap at Forbury Park on Saturday. Jottings

Strathsprey lost his chance when he began slowly in the first division of the ‘Drayton Trot Handicap at the Methven Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. An aged gelding by Quite Sure from Songster, Strathsprey showed some ability once he settled down to trot, and he should eventually win races for J. Young, who trains him at Addington. * Pass J n B Parade impressed by her effort to finish in second place to Pimpernel in the second division of the Mawheraiti Trot Handicap at the Reefton Jockey Clubs meeting on Saturday. A promising pacer, Passing Parade is a five-year-ola mare by Gamble from Rita Ann. Calumeßa, the winner of the Spring Handicßp at the New Brighton Trotting Club s meeting on September 6, should be suited by the mile and a half journey m the Frey berg Handicap at the Torbury trotting Club’s meeting this week. Metropole gave an encouraging display at Methven on Saturday and he should pay expenses for J. McLennan at Wanganui on Saturday. Spectacular Race

Record Broken On °lee Hanover established a world’s record for trotting mares on a half-mile

track of 2min 1 3-ssec when she won the second heat of the Dr. Spencer free-for-all trot from Algiers at Delaware, Ohio, on September 19. Algiers, which won the first heat in 2min 5 2-ssec, won the final from Onolee Hanover in 2min 8 l-ssec. Turned Out Stimulant recently went lame, and he has been turned out for a spell. An aged gelding by Grattan Loyal from Sure. Stimulant raced well for Mr H. W. Drewery last season to gain four ,-wins and four minor placings. Matinee Meeting at Auckland The Auckland Trotting Club successfully tackled the big maiden field problem at its matinee meeting last Saturday, when the Milford a 2min 59see class race, was run in six heato and two finals, which each carried a stake of £l5O. Eighteen horses qualified in the heats, making nine for each final. The first final resulted in a head-heat between Airswept and Gaelic King, which had registered 2min 57sec and 2min 57 2-ssec respectively when they were placed in the first heat. In the final Gaelic King and Airswept recorded 2min 50 2-ssec. Alec Potts, a heat winner in 2min 56 -4-ssec, was less than a length away in third place in 2min 50 4-ssec. Alex Potts made a slow beginning, and he travelled a good way before he settled down to pace properly. A five-year-old gelding by Jack Potts from Summit, Alec Potts appeals as an early winner. The second final was won by Tidy Lady in 2min 56sec. Spring Song, a Village Farm novice*, which won a heat, and Josedale Junior, which won his heat in hollow fashion, both ruined their chances by breaking and losing a lot of ground at the start. Mustang, dnother heat winner, tried to lead all the way, but he had no chance with Tidy Lady over the last furlong. Josedale Junior attracted attention to his prospects by finishing in third place, a head away from Mustang. Josedale Junior looked to be in a hopeless position with three furlongs to go, but he showed rare speed in the sprint home. Josedale Junior is above the average, and he should soon win a race.
