RUGBY LEAGUE
RECORD RECEIPTS AT FIRST TEST
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, October 6. The receipts at the first test between the New Zealand and British Rugby League teams were a record for the Headingley ground. There were 30,000 spectators, who paid £5600. The New Zealanders’ share is reported to be about £2500, which will be a great help in their effort to raise the '£ 18,000 necessary to cover expenses. After the match the High Commissioner (Mr Jordan) attended a private dinner with the New Zealanders in Leeds. The “Yorkshire Post,” commenting on the game, which Britain won by a single point, said: "With all their fault? Britain were a slightly better side. The tourists have not played together often enough to have a thorough understanding and they are not fully fit. In the circumstances they fought hard, if not very well, with Smith, Mcßride, and Mountford do-* ing well in the forwards and Forrest and McGregor running resolutely on the Wings.” Warwick Clarke is suffering from rib injuries which may require an X-ray.
