PEACE
Sir,—The keynote of the Messianic “good news’’ was the promise left Mankind, from the Advent to its objective goal, of peace—peace on earth. Unfortunately, to a development towards atomic and germ-warfare, the world of men has mistaken the message and mistrusted the method the Christ proposed. Both were declared unequivocably to be the spur and fruitage of a quality of thought apd action called peaceableness. Therein lies disclosed the singular reason for our failure even yet, for all bur fear and dislike of war. to have arrived anywhere near our goal of peace. The prophecy stands, “The meek shall inherit the earth.” Militancy of what-ever-shade or impulse goes irrevocably to self-extinction. Mr Churchill Jr. and his sponsors would apparently hasten the process.—Yours, etc., FRANCIS WILLIAM HEAL. . October 6, 1947. Sir,—lf humanity had simply followed in our Lord’s footsteps, and lived as near/to His perfect example as possible, in thought, word, and deed, we should not be in this appalling mess Our was not only a great thinker; He carried out His teaching in hard work and example, and it cost nothing in actual £ s. d. New World Order? Here it is, and for 1900 years we have turned a deaf ear; we are all much too busy rushing after it. It would be funny if it were not so heartbreakingly tragic.—Yours, etc., x , SYLVIA M. WRIGHT. October 14, 1947.
