About 4500 troops are involved th© Kingdom’s decision .withdraw all forces from the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan, it was learned authoritatively to-day. Although 1 the United Kingdom troops in the occupation force are mostly now used for administrative and lines of communication work, they total nearly 2000, and the Royal Air Force, with a strength of 2500 personnel, is the biggest unit in the British Commonwealth air group. The Royal Navy in Japan has about 150 men. Lieutenant-General H, C. H. Robertson, commander-in-chief of the Commonwealth Force, said he had not yet beep informed of the decision to withdraw the British troops. It had apparently been decided upon at a high Government level, “I would be most surprised if New Zealand did anything to reduce her forces,” he added. Sixteen hundred Indian troops will leave for home to-morrow, and a rear party of about 1000 will follow on October 20. With the withdrawal of the British forces, the strength of the Commonwealth Force will be about 14,000, including about 11,000 Australians and 3000 New Zealanders.
