SEAMEN RESCUED FROM CLIFF FACE
(P.A.) ' NAPIER, October 3. Unable to climb forward or backward on the cliff face which they had reached, two seamen from the overseas vessel Devon presented a problem for rescuers this morning. In an attempt to climb the face of BUiff Hill, on ‘the Napier foreshore, the two men reached a point about half-way up and found they could go no further. They were unable to descend by the way they had come, and had to stay where they were for two hours and a half. The climbers’ plight was seen from the harbour, and a rescue partsr from the ship, helped by the Harbour Board’s bosun, went to their assistance. One of the rescuers was lowered from the cliff top with a rope, and the two men were brought to safety. The cliff was climbed by a visiting seaman last year.
