Art Unions and Art
Concern at the use of the term “art union” for a public lottery is expressed in the sixty-sixth annual report of the Auckland Society of Arts. It claims that the term has been misused and debased to the detriment of the cultivation of the fine arts, and says that the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr W. E. Parry, has been asked if some other term could be applied to public lotteries, restricting the expression “art union” to the disposal of works of fine art.
