NATIONALISING BANKS

BILL TO COME BEFORE FEDERAL HOUSE

PROBABLE SUBMISSION ON OCTOBER 14

(Rec. 7 p.m.) CANBERRA. October 3. The bill to nationalise the trading banks will probably cgpte before the Federal House of Representatives on October 14.

At a meeting of the Labour Party some members of the Federal caucus raised the question, and were told that they had been given a full opportunity to discuss the legislation at the meeting, which had endorsed the Cabinet proposal, and that there did not seem any good reason for raising the question again. AH States report that protests are pouring m in full volume. In New South wales and Victoria more than 655.000 people have signed petitions protesting against nationalisation. This does not include petitions circulated by the Liberal Party, leaders of which waited on the Prime Minister (Mr Chifley, in Canberra to present to him petitions signed by 200,000 electors.
