LONGER HOURS IN MINES
REPORTED AGREEMENT x x. LONDON, October 2. Tne Cabinet, the Coal Board, and ‘the National Mineworkers’ Union, after a renewed discussion on the method of working longer hours in the pits to increase coal production, have reached an agreement. It has been announced that the proposals will be submitted to a conference of the Mineworkers’ Union on October 10.
Reuters says it is understood that the agreement follows the lines of the agreement reported earlier when the Coal Board and the union decided to leave to local Unions the choice between working an extra halfHour a day or on Saturday mornings. The Cabinet was understood to have turned down this proposal last week.
