DUTCH PAINTER ON TRIAL
ALLEGED FORGERY OF OLD MASTERS
(Rec. 7 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, Sept. 29. The trial has opened of Hans van Meegeren, a Dutch painter, who is alleged to have defrauded the Dutch Government and a number of overseas buyers of £700,000 by selling them copies of famous paintings by Vermeer and Pieter de Hoogh as originals.
