ELLESMERE LAND DRAINAGE

FINAL MEETING OF BOARD The Ellesmere Lands Drainage Board formally held its final meeting last evening. Resolutions authorising the secretary to hand over all assets and property to the North Canterbury Catchment Board were passed. From October 2 its affairs will be handled by the catchment board. To mark the occasion a social function was held for board members and a number of guests, including several of the board’s former officers and employees. The chairman (Mr F. Coop) briefly thanked members for their support during the years. He said rather than make a statement about the work of the board during a period of 40 years, he had decided to ask that a record of its activities should be compiled and lodged permanently with the catchment board. Thanks were also expressed to the newspapers for the way in which they had reported meetings. Mr J. H. Meyer also spoke, thanking the board’s officers for their support.
