THE KEA

Sir, —I have rarely read such sentimental trash as written in your issue of September 24 by A. X. Mullett. I wish the writer had been with me a week ago at Lewis Rass, when, roused by the pitious bleating of a sheep in distrSs, I discovered a prostrate sneep with three keas on her back, furiously hacking their way through the wool and skin of the poor, defenceless creature to get at her kidney fat. They were eating the sheep alive and other dead ones lay about. If it is not a punishable offence to feed and treat keas as pets, it ought to be. —Yours, etc., DAN. September 29, 1947.
