RISINGHOLME
Sir,—We are about to see the culmination of a wonderful piece of cooperative enterprise on the part of the residents of Opawa in the new hall for the community centre at Risingholme. In the same grounds we shall also see a piece of abominable neglect on the part of the Christchurch City Council. A footbridge spanning a deep culvert in the grounds is a positive menace to children and adults using it. Some 12 months ago the council patched it but left the approach to the bridge unrailed at the most dangerous part. Since then the decking has worked loose, and it is most inadequately railed, especially as small children run over it. The council’s attention has been drawn to this menace but so far with no results. As a ratepayer I feel it is failing in its duty.—Yours, etc., H. JUDD. September 22, 1947. [“lt has already been explained to Mr Judd that inability to obtain the necessary hardwood materials has prevented the re-erection of this bridge, together with other important works,” commented the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast).!
