VITAL STATISTICS
Births registered at Christchurch for the nine months ended yesterday showed a substantial increase on the figures for the corresponding period in 1946. Marriage notices, marriages by registrar, and deaths all showed a decrease. The figures for the period ended yesterday, which were given by the registrar (Mr A. A. Besley), with details for the corresponding period last year in parenthesis, were:—births, 3321 (3011); deaths, 1455 (1498); notices of marriage. 1519 (1692); marriages by registrar. 284 (311). All vital statistics last month showed a decrease on the figures for September, 1946, there being 42 fewer deaths. Details were:—births, 412 (418); deaths, 172 (214); notices of marriage, 183 (192); marriages by registrar, 30 (37).
