FOOD PRICES IN NEW YORK REACH RECORD HIGH LEVEL.—The prices of many basic foods in New York City reached the highest level ever recorded during the week ended September 12. This diagram, reproduced from the “New York Times,” shows the upward trend of prices since September. 1939. The graph is based on the “most general price” as compiled by the New York Department of Marketing. Some shops charge more, some less. The middle panel shows the last quoted price of the United States Office of Price Administration, which, within the limits of Federal law, administers the price and rent regulations.
