FORD MILLTON HOME
CHILDREN TO BE RECEIVED AT CHRISTMAS It will be possible to receive about 10 children at the Ford Millton Children’s Home during the Christmas holidays. This was announced at a recent meeting -of the general committee of the Sunlight League at which Dr. D. E. Currie presided. It was stated that because of the heavy burden of taxation it would be two or three years before a larger number of children could be received. Mr C. G. McKellar said that until the new well was working safely a pump would be installed at the well by the Garry, and this would provide sufficient pure drinking water. Thanks were expressed to Messrs O. Harley and A. J. White, and Mrs Edgar Stead for gifts of trees and grape vines.
It was reported that recently a fire on the other side of the Garry had become out of control, and crossed to Birch Hill where a large area of gorse had been burned, and bush had been threatened. It had been necessary to fight the fire for about 12 hours. Presenting her report on the “Glenelg ’ Health Camp, Miss M. Enright said that 30 boys had been at “Glenelg” during the school holidays. Forty women’s organisations in Christchurch were again forming a local area committee to assist with the sale of health stamps this year, she said. The members of the general committee of the Sunlight League promised their support for the campaign.
