OBITUARY

MRS J. H. MILNE Mrs Agnes Olive Milne of Fendalton, who died recently, was born at Cust, a daughter of Mr George Searles; one of the first five men to settle in that district. He arrived at Lyttelton at the age of 18 in the Sir Edward Paget. He walked over the Bridle track to Heathcote, where he stayed for some time before going to Cust. Mrs Milne was educated at the Cust school and taught in the Anglican Sunday School, gaining honours in the teachers’ examination. In 1896 she was married to Mr John Hendry Milne and lived at Ohoka before going to make her home in Waimate. Her husband died six years ago. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs A. E. Goldsmith (Dacre, Southland), Mrs S. Strong (Cashmere), Mrs B. Figg (Gisbopne), Mrs.D. Boyd Wilson (Waimate) and five sons, Douglas and Gordon (Stonewall), William Ivan Elephant Hill), Alan (Hazelburn), and Brian (Waikaremoana).
