REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY
Sir, —Your football critic was a bit hard on Bill Mumm, Buller’s representative in the South Island Rugby team. Mumm is one of the hardest ana fastest forwards in New Zealand and thoroughly deserves his place in the team. Had Canterbury a few of his type, the Ranfurlv Shield would not be in the possession of Otago. It is because Mumm is so heady and so fast that, despite the fact that he is front row forward, he is up with the ball and has such a fine scoring record in club and representative football. Your critic can rest assured that Mumm will be playing a hard and fast game when team-mates are leaning up against the goal posts or other members of their team.—Yours, etc., KEEN FOLLOWER OF RUGBY. Westport, September 24, 1947.
