CAVENDISH CLUB

VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH Members of the Cavendish Club, Ashburton, presented an excellent and unusual entertainment at the Canterbury Women’s Club last night when the audience was impressed and pleased not only by the high standard of the performance but by the beauty and colour of the dressing and settings. The visitors were welcomed by the president of the Canterbury Women’s Club (Mrs J. P. Rickard), . who presented Mrs W. R. Ryburn (president of the Cavendish Club) with a shoulder spray.

The programme opened with a tense one-act French play, written by Phoebe M. Rees and produced by Renee Chamberlain. Members of the cast were: Madeline Kelleher, Irene Bell, Dorothy Charles, Huena Horgan, Lilias Sherborne, Joyce Holdgate. For the pleasant gay “Spring Pageant” that followed, Madeleine McKeage played the accompaniments for the many tuneful songs and lilting choruses. Those taking part were Gertrude Jordan, Esme Ingram, Ailsa Nash, Muriel Macfarlane, Doreen Caithness, Betty Millichamp, Nan Stephenson, Ysabel Moller, Lillian Cliffj Helen Todd, Gertrude Smith, Mavis Lowry, Orma McLennan, Wyn Morris. The words and music, of one song were by two residents of Ashburton, C. G. Drury and Margaret Jennings. On behalf of the audience, Mrs A. Ledsham congratulated the artists and thanked them for providing the entertainment.
