TOUR BY AUSTRALIAN TEAM POSSIBLE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE X MEETING (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 29. It was hoped in the coming season to get an Australian team to New Zealand, said the chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association (Mr A. E. Henderson) at the annual meeting of the association last evening. Arrangements would be made to stage matches in as many centres as possible. Criticism of New Zealand rankings was offered by Mr L. H. Pollock (Wellington). While Miss M. Kerr was ranked sixth, although she had not beaten any one of the first 10 players, he said, Mrs Painter (formerly Miss M. Snelling), who had won three South Island titles and had beaten Miss Attwood, was not ranked in the first 10. Mr Pollock suggested that the overseas performances of the men players sh< uld not be taken into account. He moved that the ranking be referred back for reconsideration. Mr H. N. Burns said that the rankings constituted a permanent record and should conform very closely to the relative perfornfances of the players. If they did not take overseas performances into account, said Mr IJenderson, it could lead to grave anomalies. Mr Pollock’s motion was lost. A proposal to extend the scope of the Wilding Shield and Nunneley Casket competitions by the addition to the teams of two juniors players under the age of 18 to play two singles and one doubles match against juniors in opposing teams, the results tc> count towards the trophy result, was put forward on behalf of the Wellington Association. The motion embodying the proposal was lost. For the New Zealand junior championships it Wts agreed to limit entries to 64 in the singles, 32 in the doubles, and 64 in the mixed doubles. . The election of officers resulted as follows:—patron, the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Freyberg): president. Mr A. H. S. Lamb (Auckland); secretary-treasurer, Mr A. C. W. Mantell Harding: management committee, Messrs J. L. Squire, R. P. Coooer, J. J. Granville, I. H. MacArthur, A. H. Richards, J. A. McGill, and H. S. Wilkinson; auditor, Mr F. O. Austin; vice-presidents Miss N. Lloyd, Messrs E. D. Andrews, E. Malfroy, H. Clay, and H. G. N. Lee; representative on Lawn Tennis Association, London, and the International Lawn Tennis Federation, Mr E. D. Andrews. Mr H. N. Boddington was elected a life member.
