NO CHANGE IN FOOD RATIONING
No change should be made in the present rationing system, and emphasis should be placed on the‘voluntary saving of food,” stated a resolution placed before the conference by the Food for Britain Campaign Committee. This recommendation was carried, the only dissent being from the Returned Services’ Association delegate who held that rationing should be “tightened up.”
The committee had no recommendation to make on the question of more effective results being obtained by any revision of the present meat and butter rationing systems. Other recommendations of the committee carried by the conference were* That development of the food parcel scheme would be of advantage as a manifestation of goodwill if not detrimental to bulk shipments of food. That the question of freight and postage charges on individual parcels be investigated with the object of securing a reduction. That the New Zealand Government approach the British authorities and ask for an urgent review of the bulk food parcels scheme with the aim of making it possible for bulk parcels to be sent from New Zealand to stated authorities m Britain for their distribution.
That the New Zealand Aid to Britain Committee should from time to time advise local organisations as to the best types of food and containers and general advice as to the best methods of assembly. That a special committee be formed to consider all aspects of fat collection. That an officer of the Economic Intormation Service be released for a detailed investigation throughout New Zealand of the fat scheme at the source.
