A BUSY MONTH

WORK OF TUBERCULOSIS ASSOCIATION Nine requests for relief had been aealt with during the last month by the after-care committee of the South Island Tuberculosis Association, and in most cases help had been given. This was reported at the monthly meeting of the executive of the association, held last night, and in every case the action of the committee was endorsed. It was decided to make further inquiries regarding a few other applications.

One of the two official visitors for the sanatorium service committee reported on visits paid to the Coronation Hospital and to the Upper Sanatorium, where small comforts were distributed and urgent cases requiring help had been attended to. It was mentioned that gifts of dark umbrellas for thp use of patients on the sun balconies at the Coronation Hospital would be welcome.

The Wellington Tuberculosis Association reported that a firm in Wellington had offered to give graded employment to* discharged patients of sanatoria until their mental and physical condition was such that they could confidently undertake work for a 40hour week. Appreciation of the firm’s action was expressed by the chairman (Dr. W. Gordon Rich), who presided. A booklet, reporting on recent research work in tuberculosis and recent developments in the treatment of patients, was received from the National Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis. London, a body with which the South Island association is affiliated.

A donation of £5O from the Mrs M. M. McDougall 'Jrust Fund and one of £3O from the Mayor’s fund were received with gratitude.
