ANIMALS’ HOME
Sir, —In your issue of July 16 a very direct inquiry is made over the no'm-de-plume of “Inquirer” regarding the Animals’ Home at Woolston. Mr R. D. Martin, in a footnote to the letter, states that if the correspondent writes him or interviews him personally he will give him all the information he requires. Quite so, but what a state of things this would reveal! I understand the home has been closed, the caretaker given notice to quit, and the animals—well, mystery of mysteries, where are they? What I want to know is this. The society is incorporated. Did it call a meeting of members by notice and advertisement in the dailjA papers? If not, what is the position! regarding this animal home, and the part Mr Martin is taking or has taken regarding it?—Yours, etc , AD FINEM. July 25, 1947. [Mr R. D. Martin (president of the Animals’ Protection Society), when this letter was referred to him, said: “The home in Woolston is still functioning and the custodian has not been given notice to quit. There are a number of stray animals in the home being cared for until good homes are found for, them. Last week good homes were found for five dogs. The society is incorporated. Committee meetings are held monthly and general meetings for members are held quarterly. Members are notified of them by advertisement in the daily papers.” Mr Martin added that he was still president of the society and all his actions were confirmed by the committee.]
